Following our recent regulatory approvals from the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) and the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO), we are pleased to share the target launch timeline for CIX, Canada’s next-generation alternative trading system.
Built on IntelligentCross technology, CIX is designed to bring innovation, execution quality, and competition to Canadian equity markets. Our mission is to deliver a modern, high-performance marketplace that provides investors and market participants with better execution, greater efficiency, and broader access.
To support a successful launch, we will introduce the platform through a phased rollout that allows CIX Subscribers to validate connectivity, certification, operational processes, and trading functionality before expansion to full production symbol coverage.
Subscribers and other participants are encouraged to use the technical launch period to complete final readiness activities, confirm production connectivity, validate market data and order entry workflows, and coordinate any remaining onboarding requirements with the CIX team.
Launch Timeline
CIX is launching three IntelligentCross trading books: ASPEN, ASPEN VERT, and MIDPOINT. For most up to date details on specifications and functionality, please visit CIX Resources - Technical Specifications & Integration Guides
Future Enhancements
As communicated in our regulatory approval announcement, certain functionality will be introduced following the initial launch as we continue expanding the platform:
- Fractional Trading: Fractional trading on CIX ASPEN VERT is targeted for Q4 2026, subject to CIRO operational readiness.
- Extended Hours Trading (7am – 8am and 5pm – 8pm): Extended Hours Trading on CIX ASPEN and CIX ASPEN VERT is also targeted for Q4 2026, subject to CIRO operational readiness. Trading hours at launch are 8am – 5pm ET.
- Extended Hours Symbol Eligibility: When Extended Hours Trading becomes available, eligibility will initially be limited to securities listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) and Cboe Canada. CIX intends to pursue regulatory approval to expand eligibility to additional securities over time.
These enhancements represent the next phase of our roadmap as we continue building Canada’s most technologically advanced equity marketplace.
Over the coming weeks, we will provide additional communications covering production symbol lists, participant readiness activities and operational details.
We will also provide at least 20 days' notice in advance of launching Fractional Trading and Extended Hours Trading.
Please note that CIX has removed the Mixed Central Limit Order Book (Mixed CLOB) on CIX ASPEN from its current functionality. CIX will pursue regulatory approval for a Mixed CLOB in the future.
We would like to thank our subscribers, technology partners, and industry stakeholders for their collaboration and support throughout the approval process. We look forward to welcoming you to CIX and beginning a new chapter for Canadian equity trading.
If you have any questions regarding onboarding or launch readiness, please contact the CIX team at info@thecix.ca.
We look forward to trading with you in September.
