In The Globe and Mail, Capital Markets Reporter Jameson Berkow covers the launch of CIX's trading platform and what extended hours mean for Canadian investors. CIX founder and CEO Jeff Foster explains why access is the core issue and where CIX goes from here.
Canadian stocks have traded from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET for decades. CIX is expanding that window, starting with 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. this week, moving to 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. later this year, and working toward 23-hour trading, Monday to Friday. The Globe also notes that CIX is bringing fractional trading to Canada.
Foster tells the Globe that investors now compare Canadian equities with sports betting, U.S. stock trading and crypto. His goal is a "level playing field from an access perspective." The story also covers CIX's IntelligentCross-powered matching engine, which Foster calls the company's biggest differentiator. It describes CIX's ambition to grow from an alternative trading system into a full exchange. It also looks at the global shift toward longer trading days, including LSE Group CEO David Schwimmer's comments on the drivers behind it.
